Committee Selects Open Book for 2013-2014

Committee Selects Open Book for 2013-2014

The text for the 2013-2014 Open Book Project has been chosen, and we know you can’t wait to get your paws on it!

The Open Book Project committee has agreed upon “The Other Wes Moore: One Name, Two Fates” by author Wes Moore to serve as this year’s common book.

Author Wes Moore recounts his experience as being mistaken for a convicted murderer with an oddly similar identity to his own—a fatherless, troubled childhood; grew up literally blocks away from each other in Baltimore; and possesses the same name.

However, today, their lives could not be more different. Moore grew up to be a Rhodes Scholar, decorated veteran, business leader and White House Fellow. His book sets out to answer the questions of why their two lives are so different and how they ended up here, despite their uncanny similar upbringings.

Like the previously chosen books for the reading initiative, “The Other Wes Moore” will be studied and analyzed in classrooms throughout the college by students and faculty who decide to incorporate the text into their coursework. Events have also been planned throughout the semester to reflect upon the life lessons and situations covered in the text.

Visit the Bookstore today in Bldg. S, Room S238 and purchase your own copy for $15 or rent it for $7.49!
