Mesquite Symphony Returns

Mesquite Symphony Returns

It’s been five years since Rodger Bennett was the featured performer at the Mesquite Symphony Orchestra’s concert at Brookhaven College, but he returns to the stage this year for “Melodic Magicians” on Sept. 14 at 7:30 p.m. in the Performance Hall.

Melodic Magicians will showcase Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Procession of the Nobles,” Brahms’ “Academic Festival Overture,” Haydn’s “Symphony No. 88” and Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez.”

Currently the vice president for academic achievement and student success, Bennett also served as the executive dean of the School of the Arts, Athletics, Physical Education and Nutrition for more than 15 years. Prior to that he taught music for more than 20 years at Brookhaven College, the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and Temple University. He has performed extensively in Mexico, throughout the United States, and in Korea, Canada, England, Ireland, Austria and Romania as a guitar soloist.

Since 2004, the symphony has been performing at the college with faculty members as the featured soloists to support scholarship funds that are awarded to students in the Brookhaven College School of the Arts Music Department.

Tickets are $15 for general admission with $10 tickets available to students and senior adults. To purchase tickets, contact the Music Department of the School of the Arts at 972-860-4730.
