Mark Majek, director of operations at The Texas Board of Nursing, along with dozens of other nursing education professionals visited Brookhaven College on Oct 9. The college was one of a select number of stops the Board does every legislative year to inform instructional institutions on the changes passed in the recent sessions. The event opened with catered refreshments and many reunions between attendees.
Most of the changes presented involved new accepted student processes, which entail checking students’ status on exam-taking, pass rates and graduation rates. Majek also talked about the changes in licensing, background checks and positions in the Board of Nursing.
Aside from Brookhaven College employees from our Health and Human Services Division, representatives from Grayson Community College, Dallas Nursing Institute, Trinity Valley College, Baylor University, West Coast University, ITT Tech, Florida Institute, Mountain View College and El Centro College attended the event. Brookhaven College’s educational consultant from the Texas Board of Nursing, Dr. Gayle Varnell, was also present, and available to anyone with concerns or questions.
