There are just a few days left until this year's Earth Science Fair, Oct. 19 and 20 at the Brookhaven College Geotechnology Institute. This event has grown significantly in the last few years and now attracts hundreds of families, students and vendors.
This year, the Perot Museum returns as well as the Mobile Noble Planetarium, both of which are favorites with the younger visitors. New this fall for the kids is a mobile placer mine sluice. Melanie Gamble, director of the BCGI, has coordinated a new offering for the adults.
The STEM Speaker series offers a series of short lectures for adults on topics that range from Mt. Vesuvius to the environmental studies in the Texas Gulf Coast to images from the Hubble Telescope. No two topics are the same and there are talks both days of the fair.
Bring the family and remind your friends that this great event is free and open to all. There are dozens of activities for the kids as well as unique vendors for rocks, fossils and jewelry. The fair is open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. each day.
