Once again, the Dallas County Community College District is coming together for annual participation in the State Employee Charitable Campaign during the month of October.
The SECC allows employees to donate monthly to one or more charities within the organization's directory through check, cash or payroll deduction. Whether your deepest concerns are directed toward hunger crises, canine companions, cancer research or even human rights, there are hundreds of causes that need your support.
Brookhaven's role in participation is just beginning. On Oct. 2, Dawn Bishop, assistant to the vice president of business services and Brookhaven College SECC chair, and her SECC committee hosted an Ice Cream Social in hopes to draw in the first round of pledge forms. Donators mingled and chatted while chowing down on a delicious serving of ice cream.
To date, Brookhaven has received more than $21,000 in donations from approximately 112 contributors—that's already 38.5 percent of the target $55,189. By the end of the month, we hope to have a total of 400 contributors.
The next SECC event will be Oct. 17 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Employee Success Center Lobby outside Bldg. T, Room T209. The concept is simple: a completed pledge form for a free bag of popcorn. The monetary commitment can be as small as $2, but more is certainly welcome.
The deadline to turn in completed pledge forms is Halloween Day. To find out who your building coordinator is or for more information about the SECC, contact Carrie Schweitzer at Ext. 4848.
