Question of the Month

Question of the Month

"What gets your 'geek' going?" With "Thor: The Dark World" and "The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug" now in theaters, it has been non-stop geek excitement here at The Chatter! Tell us what makes you nerd/geek out, and what you are most excited for in 2014.

My "geek-citement" is anything Steampunk. I am amazed at the creativity and fantasy generated by its fans. I love Steampunk because it applies to so many of my personal interests, including, science, art, music, storytelling, invention, and fashion.

I'm really excited for the new Godzilla movie that is coming out in May. When I was seven years old, the 1998 version by Roland Emmerich was my favorite movie (at the time). I felt it replaced Spielberg's Jurassic Park in my books. But as I grew older, I started realizing how untrue the story was to the original movies and looked more as if it was something that a seven year old wrote. For me, movies like Cloverfield and Pacific Rim have become more notable and entertaining among the "monster-destroy-a-city" genre. I really think that the new Godzilla is going to be awesome (that may just be the trailer talking), but reading further on the details of the movie, it seems Gareth Edwards, the director of the film, and the writers are going back to the story's roots. So yeah, totally geeking out on level 100 for Godzilla.

I haven't had a chance to see "Thor: The Dark World" yet but I am a Marvel comic book and movie GEEK! Lol. I am very excited to see the new Hobbit movie as well. I would have to say I'm most excited in 2014 to see "Captain America: The Winter Soldier"; "Guardians of the Galaxy"; and the new "X-Men: Days of Future Past" movie. I'm also really trying to get up the money to visit Chicago so I can see all the nice art museums.

I have to say the talk of the film, movie, entertainment, and comics world that absolutely has stolen headlines for the next two years is the new Superman vs Batman movie! Ben Affleck is going to play Batman aka Bruce Wayne and to sweeten the movie they are going to have the one and only Wonder Woman in the movie too! I absolutely can't wait to see that movie in 2015!

I have an unfortunate disease that is similar to the nerd/geek syndrome that you are talking about. I have the dread "Photo GAS" syndrome. I believe there is treatment, but first you have to accept that you truly have GAS and want to save yourself.

But, I really do need a new 5D mk3 and a Pocket Wizard 111s, and how could I live without that 70-200 f2.8L lens.

Hi I'm George and I'm a gear addict. I have Gear Acquisition Syndrome.

We got excited and festive in Chemistry and made our own Christmas tree to put in our suite window.

Rock. Paper. Scissors. Lizard. Spock. I am an ardent fan of the Big Bang Theory.

I also am an accessories snob, which is equivalent to geek in the fashion world. I have several items I have collected over the years that include purses, shoes, and jewelry that are organized and cataloged alphabetically (or by designer).

Doctor Who! Ooo weee ooo! And anything Disney!

I'm not even going to try and hide it ... I geek out over Lady Gaga. I just ordered my tickets for her concert in July. If you were to follow me on Spotify, all you'd see from my activity this week is looping her ARTPOP album. She is the only "pop" artist I enjoy and listen to. Everything else is grunge, indie, alternative and classic rock. Go figure. (Paws up!)

Oh, where to begin ...

We have had family meetings to decide if, though my oldest daughter may be away at college by the time the next Captain America movie comes out (scheduled for 2015), she would still be required to wait until she could come home to be able to watch it when all of us are together. That's how seriously we take our super hero movies.

Then there are the Star Wars action figures, Star Trek gadgets and posters (original and many of the "new" and next generations), Dr. Who lunch boxes, Muppets books and videos, Jim Butcher novels (both Harry Dresden and Alera series); there is literally no way to count it all up to show our super-silly fandom for so many things geeky.

What gets my geek going is the hit show "Game of Thrones." The dialogue between the characters keeps you glued to the screen. It is like watching a good sports game. Who plays it better, and who will win?

I totally geek out for a lot of things. Sci-fi and fantasy movies and books usually catch my interest. I've been writing Harry Potter fan fiction online for several years. I love model trains, and I am now designing a layout for an HO scale monorail. The design of the monorail train will be loosely based on the monorail at Disney World. I would rather be at Walt Disney World than almost anywhere else. In 2014 I'm going to publish the first book of my anime/manga inspired light novel "Finding the Sky".

I have a library of around 300 unique board game titles. No particular obsession over a subject or anything, other than just the board game hobby as a whole.

During "Icemageddon" I broke out the first season of BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER box set and thoroughly enjoyed the days when David Boreanaz was a guest star, Buffy's mom was clueless, and Willow was mad about Xander.

The process of creating 3D animation and computer generated special effects. I've been fascinated by it for years. It doesn't matter how simple or complex. I love it all. Especially if it's Sci-Fi, which is the second thing that really gets my geek going.
