All the planning in the world could not circumvent Mother Nature Feb. 6 for the District Conference Day events. Richland College hosted professional support staff employees and Cedar Valley College welcomed faculty and administrators for a day of enrichment and an opportunity to socialize with colleagues.
For many attendees the snow started on their drive to the event. The light dusting that was forecast increased in intensity as the morning progressed creating a winter wonderland. Participants, presenters and volunteers cautiously navigated the snow-covered walkways and slippery parking lots.
The morning got off to a slow start with the delay of Dr. Lassiter's arrival. Dr. Jennifer Wimbish, President, CVC and Dr. Kay Eggleston, President, RLC welcomed employees to their respective campuses before displaying a recorded message from Dr. Joe May, incoming DCCCD Chancellor. Dr. Lassiter spoke briefly as one of his last official duties as retiring chancellor.
There was time for only one morning breakout session before gathering for lunch. Afternoon sessions were cut short as the announcement came that campuses would be closing at 2 p.m. due to the weather.
A great deal of planning and organizing was required to prepare for the annual day-long event. Volunteers were on hand to assist attending employees in navigating each campus. Ample breakfast selections and hot lunch entrees were available and hot beverage stations were manned in various locations on both campuses throughout the day.
Participating employees were provided a variety of interesting learning opportunities and activities as well as the chance to network with colleagues and catch up with friends throughout the District.
