1-15-14

The Brookhaven Bears bench scored a season high 69 points to bail out the Bears in a 116-92 home win over the Lions. The starters began the game by spotting the Lions a 14-0 lead from which the Bears did not fully recover until taking a 75-74 lead with 10:37 to play in the game. From there the Bears produced an offensive onslaught in outscoring the Lions 41-18 the rest of the way. The win improves the overall record to 15-5, 1-1 in conference play.

1-23-14

The Brookhaven Bears Basketball Team dug themselves out of a 17-5 hole to start the game to escape Cedar Valley with a 95-94 victory. The Bears and Suns traded the lead back and forth the entire second half and the Bears actually trailed by four with under a minute to play. The 94-90 deficit turned into the 95-94 win as the Bears went 5 of 6 from the free throw line. The win improves the Bears to 16-6 and evens the conference mark at 2-2.

1-25-14

The Brookhaven Bears Basketball Team shot 56% from two as they scored 49 points each half in the win over North Lake. The Blazers opened the game by outscoring the Bears 5-0 but by the 10 minute mark of the first half the Bears had tied the score at 18. At half the Bears led 49-39 and never trailed the rest of the way to claim a 98-91 victory. The win improves the Bears to 17-6 overall, 11-2 at home, and 3-2 in conference play. Thank you to a great home crowd.

2-1-14

Three weeks ago, Brookhaven and Eastfield combined for 233 points and played at a break neck pace. Today was not much different as the teams again lit up the scoreboard 110-107 in a match-up of the Nation’s two highest scoring teams. The Bears spent the first 26 minutes playing catch up and trailed 72-65 at that point. Brookhaven then went on a 18-2 run to claim a 83-74 lead which they never relinquished. The win boosts the Bears overall record to 18-6 and 4-2 in conference play.

2-6-14

For 39:58.8, the Brookhaven Bears and Mountain View Lions traded baskets. However, with 1.2 seconds left, sophomore Tray Baldwin scored on an offensive rebound put back to give the Bears the final tally of the night in the 94-92 victory. After losing at Southwestern Christian in non-conference play, in similar fashion, the Bears will gladly take the conference win. The win improves the Bears to 19-6 overall and 5-2 in conference. The win also sets up a Saturday at 2 p.m., in the Bears’ Den, showdown with Richland College for first place in the conference.

2-9-14

The Brookhaven Bears basketball team scored a season low, by 25 points, in a 65-55 home loss to Richland. The Bears were 7 of 20 from the floor and 4 of 10 from the free low in the first half for an 18 point first half, the lowest first half in at least 5 years, to trail 29-18 at the break. The loss drops the Bears to 19-7 overall and 5-3 in conference play. Our final regular season home game is this Wednesday at 7p against Cedar Valley.

2-12-14

The Brookhaven Bears trailed for about 38 minutes of the first 40, but lead the entire 5 minutes of overtime to claim a 99-94 win over Cedar Valley. The Bears were down 19 in the second half and trailed by 15 with 4:23 to play. From that point the Bears turned up the pressure on offense and defense to finish regulation on a 22-7 run. That spurt was capped by Sophomore Ty Davis hitting a 3 at the buzzer to send the game to OT. The Bears scored the first 8 points of the extra session and never trailed. The win puts the Bears at 20-7 overall and 6-3 in conference play. The game concludes the regular season portion of home play with the Bears at 12-3 in the Bears Den thanks to our AMAZING fans!!!!!! The regular season finale is this Saturday at North Lake at 2p.

2-15-14

For the third straight game, the Bears offense struggled in losing 73-70 at North Lake. Previously averaging 102 points per game, the Bears have only averaged 78 per in the last three. The main culprit was 19 missed shots in the paint. The Bears finish the regular season at 20-8, 6-4 in conference play.

2-19-14

To write that the Brookhaven Bears got off to a slow start would not be fair to the word slow, as the team fell behind 48-24 less than 13 minutes into play. However, the team woke up and cut into the deficit, but Mountain View led 57-46 at the half. The Bears still trailed 86-77 late but closed the game on a 15-2 run for the victory. The win improves the Bears to 21-8 on the season and sets up a Semi-Final showdown with Eastfield at 8 p.m. tomorrow at Richland. The Bears and Harvesters combined to score 450 points in their two regular season match ups. Thank you to an AMAZING crowd that most definitely aided the comeback!! I hope to see a BIG Brookhaven contingent at Richland tomorrow night!!!

2-20-14

The Brookhaven Bears Basketball Team played even with Eastfield the entire first half with the score being tied on 7 occasions. However, the second half was a different story as the Bears were outscored 57-43 and looked like a team that played the night before while Eastfield enjoyed a bye. The Bears conclude their 2013-2014 campaign at 21-9. Thank you for all the steadfast support and love. All Conference voting takes place on Tuesday and I will share those results.
