Our world feels much different than it did six weeks ago as we began our new academic year. Many among us have sheltered family and friends who retreated from the paths of vicious storms. We have 41 students from Louisiana now in attendance at Brookhaven. I appreciate all that you have done to allow a bit of normalcy to their lives. Thanks to a few students and staff, one Katrina student last week received pots and pans and the chance to have her first home-cooked meal since the end of August.
As the SECC campaign gets underway this week, it is easy to understand that our financial support for community service organizations is essential. Please carefully consider your level of contribution. Together we can make a real difference. And together we can reach our goal, which also is important.
I continue to feel so lucky to be at Brookhaven College. As I learn more about our people, our students and our programs, I know I am in the right place at the right time. This week marks the first of three informal “Sharing with Sharon” sessions with college employees and students. I am looking forward to these times together.
