Thanks to all who helped make “Take Care of Business Week” a successful new retention initiative. We had more than 300 students register for the free prize giveaways and we know that many more students were touched by college employees encouraging them to prepare for next semester. This is just one way that we can focus on retaining students and helping them to achieve their goals. Remember that if you have suggestions as to how we can improve this initiative, please contact Vice President Claude Caffee. The next “Take Care of Business Week” is already on the calendar to take place April 2-6, 2007.

Another “BIG THANK YOU” to each of you who contributed to a successful SECC campaign. We exceeded our goal for the number of participants and for contributions. Your generosity will support many organizations that serve those in need. What a way to show that Brookhaven College community spirit and connection. Special kudos to the SECC campaign committee for a job well done!

As I indicated in my last column, we have two task forces developing from the work of the AI Summit. It is not too late to volunteer for either of these teams. One team will develop an arena registration process with a 21st century twist and another team will work on building a sense of community through socialization and fun. If you are interested in serving on either of these teams, please contact Carrie Schweitzer by Nov. 8.

I would like to support Coach Jason Hopkins’ call for attendance at this weekend’s Lady Bears Volleyball game as they continue on the road to a three-peat for the National Volleyball championship. The team has really developed this season and has a great chance to put Brookhaven College in the history books. Please come and cheer them on and as Coach Jason says “Let’s turn the gym Brookhaven green!”

I look forward to seeing you at this afternoon’s All-College Meeting!
