Brookhaven College is a diverse, progressive educational environment enriching the lives of students, employees and our community.

Mission

Brookhaven College is dedicated to student success.

The college is committed to:

Within the overall mission, Brookhaven College provides the following:

  1. Technical programs up to two years in length leading to associate degrees or certificates;
  2. Vocational programs leading directly to employment in semi-skilled and skilled occupations;
  3. Freshman and sophomore courses in arts and sciences, including core and field of study curricula leading to associate and toward baccalaureate degrees;
  4. Continuing adult education programs for occupational upgrading or personal enrichment;
  5. Compensatory education programs designed to fulfill the commitment of an admissions policy allowing the enrollment of disadvantaged students;
  6. A continuing program of counseling and guidance designed to assist students in achieving their individual educational goals;
  7. Workforce development programs to meet local and statewide needs; and
  8. Adult literacy and other basic skills programs for adults.

The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board or the Dallas County Community College District Board, in the best interest of post-secondary education in Texas, may prescribe other purposes.

Goals:

Goal 1 – Career Preparation
Brookhaven College will assist its students in obtaining knowledge, skills and services needed to succeed in jobs and careers, which meet the workforce needs of Dallas County.

Goal 2 – Transfer Preparation
Brookhaven College will assist students in obtaining the freshman-and sophomore-level knowledge, skills and services needed to succeed in earning a baccalaureate degree.

Goal 3 – Continuing Education
Brookhaven College will assist individuals in obtaining quality continuing education to enrich their lives personally, socially, and culturally and to upgrade occupational and job skills.

Goal 4 – Basic Skills
Brookhaven College will assist individuals in acquiring basic literacy skills and developmental education to live more functionally and to become ready to participate successfully in college-level curricula.

Goal 5 – Access
Brookhaven College will recruit students from all segments of its service area population and will help them persist in achieving their individual educational goals.

Goal 6 – Economic Development
Brookhaven College will develop educational partnerships with businesses, industry, and governmental entities to help ensure a quality workforce development for Dallas County.

Goal 7 – Citizenship
Brookhaven College will assist students in acquiring knowledge and skills needed to succeed in and contribute to a global community, to understand the value of lifelong learning, and to exercise their rights and responsibilities as citizens.

Goal 8 – Distance Learning
Brookhaven College will use existing and emerging telecommunication technologies to provide convenient and flexible access to accredited and life-long learning opportunities to students and workforces.
