The Hero's Journey: Based on the work of Joseph Campbell, this course examines the journey of historical, literary, and film heroes towards enlightenment. Guest speakers will discuss a variety of topics, including psychology, philosophy and religion, to enhance students' understanding of ancient world literature and the significance of the hero's journey to one's own life. The Holocaust and other Genocides: By focusing on the literature of the Holocaust (1939-1945) as well as historical reading and lectures, this course will show how people can be led to believe in the necessity of destroying their fellow human beings and the disasters which result. This course will include a visit to the Dallas Memorial Center for Holocaust Studies and lectures form survivors and liberators of the concentration camps.
