This course will examine literature concerning civil disobedience and nonviolent resistance movements in the 20th century. Readings, lectures, films, guest speakers and presentations will include the work of Gandhi, Martin Luther King, John Lewis, Thich Nhat Hahn and contemporary peace activists. The Holocaust and other Genocides: By focusing on the literature of the Holocaust (1939-1945) as well as historical readings and lectures, this course will show how people can be led to believe in the necessity of destroying their fellow human beings and the disasters which result.
