Students will learn about the process of transferring photos to the computer, how to take pictures with an eye for computer enhancement and for use in e-mails and Web pages. Digital Video for the Web will teach students how to edit video files using Windows Movie Maker, a standard part of Windows XP. Students will play back their video on a computer or upload their creations to popular Web sites such as YouTube, Google Video and others. There is no software to buy for this course. Excel 2007, Part I, will develop skills in the basics of Microsoft Excel 2007, a program for spreadsheet and arithmetic functions. This course will include creating and editing spreadsheets, naming, saving and printing spreadsheets; navigating within worksheets; menus, shortcuts and toolbars for formatting spreadsheets and writing basic formulas. Photoshop Elements, Part II, will build on skills from Elements Part I and cover how to correct color and exposure as well as work on dust and spot removal. Students will work on a project as well as learn different ways of creating masks to isolate specific areas of photos and work with various types of layers, including text layers. PowerPoint is a presentation program used with digital photos, text, clip art and objects. It can be used to create presentations of memorable events such as birthdays, anniversaries, weddings or vacations. It also can be used to create life stories of family members or yourself. You will learn how to enhance basic presentations using custom animation, transition effects, drawing objects, 3D effects and re-coloring. Safe Computing teaches you how to protect your personal computer and the information stored in it. Students learn to take care of their personal identity information, how to avoid premature computer hardware failures, how to safely surf the Web, and how to manage passwords, personal identification numbers and account numbers. Guarding against attacks from the Internet and malicious e-mail attachments also is covered. Recommended prerequisite: Intro to Windows Tips and Tricks/Vista
Tips and Tricks/for Windows Vista and Windows 7 will deal with understanding and using the new features and capabilities of Windows Vista and Windows 7. Students learn easy ways to search for documents, run programs, reduce Internet risks and threats, and keep their computers running at top speed. Students also get tips on making and editing digital music and video. Recommended prerequisite: Intro to Windows Upgrading to Windows 7
Upgrading to Windows will help students plan their move from Windows XP or Vista to Windows 7. Topics include: assessing your old computer hardware and software, planning to move programs and data to Windows 7, getting software updates and time-saving tips for making the switch. Users Group & Problem Solving meets on Fridays, Feb 5, March 5, April 9 and May 7. Each session has a theme/topic and provides demonstrations to increase student knowledge of computers, software and the Internet. Windows 7 for XP/Vista Users is for experienced Windows users (Windows 98, Millennium, XP and Vista) who have made the decision to upgrade to Windows 7 or have purchased a new PC which came with Windows 7. Topics covered include determining if you need to buy the complete Windows package or can buy the upgrade bundle, the new screens' layouts and the most frequently used functions, including new and modified ones.
