Explore Fort Worth’s blend of wild west history and modern culture. With our professional tour guide, we’ll go on a historical tour of this legendary town, from the stockyards to the cultural district.
Leaving Brookhaven College, we will drive by the Mustangs of Las Colinas before arriving in downtown Fort Worth, where we’ll see the Water Gardens, the Bass Performance Hall with its limestone angels on the front of the building, and the old pink granite Tarrant County Courthouse. You’ll learn about Hell’s Half Acre, Sundance Square and the Chisholm Trail Mural, which commemorates the cowboys and the cattle they drove to northern depots.
The Stockyards National Historic District recalls how Fort Worth became one of the major beef suppliers in the country. We’ll visit the Livestock Building, which is still in the business of buying and selling cattle, now done by computer. We’ll see a genuine longhorn cattle drive, complete with drovers, that comes right through the middle of the stockyards.
To keep us in the “Wild West” mood, we’ll have lunch at the Hunter’s Brothers H3 Ranch, located in the Stockyard District and next door to Booger Red’s Saloon. With its live hickory wood grill, it serves a variety of ribs, chicken, pork, trout, steaks and sandwiches.
After lunch, we will drive through the cultural district, and then visit the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame, which honors the lives of women who have distinguished themselves while exemplifying the pioneer spirit of the American West.
Please register early as payment is due June 21. The cost of the trip is $28, which does not include lunch. You will board the bus at Brookhaven College. For additional information or to register, call DeBorah Stephenson at 972-860-4807 or Janice Groeneman at 972-860-4698.
