OIL PAINTINGFrom amateur to professional, anyone can discover the beauty of working with oils. You will study visual expression and styles; explore subjects, perspective and design; and learn how to begin. MURALS 101Learn to create murals big and small that will inspire and amaze everyone. You will learn the basic elements of developing a theme and designing a layout as well as how to apply paint to various surfaces. There are several painting techniques for creating murals that you will learn to apply including the use of stencils, grids and projections. Work with muralist, VET, as she shares her expertise working on indoor and outdoor murals and the special challenges each presents. You will have the opportunity to participate in a public mural project, which will be announced later. The class is geared toward teachers or anyone interested in learning how to paint murals. Fiber ArtsBATIK: HOT AND COLDYou can use color and design to create the unique pattern of batik. Using resistance dyeing and a few practice sessions, learn to apply wax using the tjanting tool and brush. VET, mixed media artist, also will reveal alternative methods of achieving faux batik patterning using non-traditional, water-based resists and fixatives. An extension of Oxy-acetylene and Arc Welding for the Craftsman, students can continue to examine the principals of oxy-fuel welding and gas metal arc welding in a safe, professional manner.
