We’ve designed this continuous course to begin preparing students who have limited skills in English to move into Communications Improvement One, Part One and beyond. You will learn basic English vocabulary, pronunciation and functional language skills. You may begin taking this course at any time and attend class as often as you like. The instructor will review basic grammar, vocabulary and new material in each class to keep you engaged, interested, and excited about learning English.

The first step: starting with the basics. Students are introduced to everyday English and practice speaking, listening, reading, writing and pronunciation in practical contexts. Students learn how to describe people, activities and occupations; and how to ask for and report information in present and future tenses. Beginning-level students continue to develop oral proficiency by practicing in class, group and pair exercises. Students learn how to express emotions and opinions, and how to react to news and information. Simple past tense, time expressions and ailments also are introduced. Prepare for employment opportunities or personal enrichment by further developing conversation, listening, reading, writing and pronunciation skills. Add to your functional vocabulary to include places around town, health conditions, food and food quantities, actions, jobs, describing words and much more. Students learn to give advice, tell about ability, express obligation, and describe past and future events. High-level beginning students continue to improve their English skills. Students will practice listening for specific information in conversations and will be able to compare people, places, things and actions. Upon completion, students will develop an active vocabulary of 1,200 words, having focused on the past, present and future tenses. Intermediate students begin with a review of grammar concepts learned in Level One and Two. New grammar and new functional vocabulary are introduced in a variety of practical situations. Students explore topics such as discussing opinions, feelings, likes and dislikes, the length of activities, work schedules, consequences and job searches. Listening for correct meaning and verb tense also are practiced. The 18 lab hours can be arranged at the student’s convenience in our instructor-guided computer lab.

Continue to improve your English skills and participate in meaningful discussions. Students learn more grammar; share information about their own experiences; discuss activities they have or haven’t done; and practice describing people’s backgrounds, interests and personalities. Increase you English vocabulary and grammar skills in Level Four while participating in interactive group, pair and class activities. Students learn how to express possibilities, abilities, wants, wishes and hopes. New grammar includes the passive voice, embedded questions, conditionals and the perfect tenses. Students practice listening for specific information and responding with the correct verb tense. Speaking with accurate sentence structure is emphasized. Students apply their grammar knowledge and use new vocabulary in discussions about various topics. An intermediate-level, comprehensive grammar review, level five begins a new series that combines grammar with interactive and communicative activities. The course focuses on using accurate verb tenses and improving your conversation skills for workplace and personal advancement. Increase your active vocabulary. Be better prepared for communicating with other people in your workplace, home or community with this intermediate English grammar course. Learn correct grammar, meaning and usage and then practice in group, pair or class activities. A high-intermediate English grammar course – Study a selected vocabulary of high-frequency words; learn reading and writing techniques; and improve your grammar, speaking, listening, and pronunciation skills. Language skills are developed through practice and participation.
