GEOLOGY ON THE BUS DINOSAUR PARK • Eligible for Financial AidLearn to read the roadside landforms to understand the story of erosion and weathering occurring all around us on the way down to discover the fascinating geologic history of Dinosaur State Park and its inhabitants. Discover how the park’s flora and fauna of today depend on the geology of the past. Fossil collecting will be available.
TRAIN THE TRAINERS CMAP WORKSHOP • Eligible for Financial AidOur CMaP course is designed for teachers, geospatial educators and informal educators in grades 5-12. Training will include using a hand-held GPS unit to do mapping, downloading your points into your computer, loading and accessing the ArcView GIS software, downloading existing map data from the web and adding your data to that map.
MORE ROCKS IN YOUR HEAD • Eligible for Financial AidElementary and middle school teachers will be exposed to a full scope of earth sciences. Teachers receive a comprehensive manual and materials designed to enable them fully or partially to incorporate the topics into the curriculum. Background information; vocabulary; project information; projects; advanced thinking topics; and cross-curricular ideas with language arts, math, social and other sciences allow teachers to teach with confidence guided in each section. The teaching projects provided are hands-on, making earth science a fun and memorable learning experience. An interactive overview and review games such as "Geo-Bingo" and "Geopardy" lead to understanding and retention for all.

This 24-hour Module will present activities designed to prepare the 3 to 6 year old child for real-life experiences and to develop skills which will increase independence and confidence. Individual exercises involve hand-eye coordination, large and small muscle control, independence, care of self and the environment. The first hour of instruction in each session is devoted to the study of classroom management and the Montessori philosophy. This course meets at CCCCD Courtyard Campus, which is located at 4800 Preston Park Blvd. in Plano.
MONTESSORI MODULE TWO : SENSORIAL EXERCISES • Eligible for Financial AidPrerequisites: Copy of high school diploma or equivalency; interview with director of program; and, commitment to begin internship with a Montessori school within 12 weeks of beginning the course. In this second of five modules, the curriculum offers exercises which introduce the young child to the five senses and assist him/her to develop these senses to observe and make discoveries in learning. The first hour of each class is devoted to the study of classroom management and the Montessori philosophy. This course meets at Collin County Community College District's Courtyard Campus, which is located at 4800 Preston Park Blvd. in Plano.
MONTESSORI MODULE THREE: LANGUAGE EXERCISES • Eligible for Financial AidPrerequisites: Copy of high school diploma or equivalency; interview with director of program; and commitment to begin an internship with a Montessori pre-primary school within 12 weeks of beginning the course. This is the third of five modules in the Montessori pre-primary teacher training program. The Montessori language materials and exercises offer a systematic breakdown of the essential elements of reading and writing, emphasizing the fundamentals of the phonics approach to reading. Individual exercises develop the 3 to 6 year old child's vocabulary, writing and reading skills. They include a variety of gross and fine motor skill activities which advance the child's hand and eye coordination. MONTESSORI MODULE FOUR: MATH EXERCISES • Eligible for Financial AidPrerequisites: Copy of high school diploma or equivalency; interview with director of program; and commitment to begin an internship with a Montessori pre-primary school within 12 weeks of beginning the course. Instruction in this fourth module of the training program focuses on activities and exercises that utilize concrete materials to introduce the 3 to 6 year old child to counting, numerical symbols and the four basic mathematical operations. The child obtains a visual concept of the math operations. The first hour of instruction in each session concentrates on the study of classroom management and the Montessori philosophy. MONTESSORI MODULE FIVE: GEOGRAPHY AND CULTURE • Eligible for Financial AidPrerequisites: Copy of high school diploma or equivalency; interview with director of program; and commitment to begin internship with a Montessori pre-primary school within 12 weeks of beginning the course. The fifth, and final module of the series presents exercises which introduce the 3 to 6 year old child to his/her environment and culture, and then expands to other countries and cultures. This study begins with the use of globes, and terms such as continents and oceans. The child furthers his/her studies with the use of puzzle maps, flags, land forms, classified nomenclature cards, and basic science concepts. The first hour of each session is devoted to the study of classroom management and the Montessori philosophy.
