Early College High School

See what students have to say about ECHS

The Early College High School at Brookhaven College is a school of the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District that is located at the college's main campus. As an educational choice, the ECHS is open to students who reside in the C-FB district and are entering the ninth grade. For the 2006-2007 school year, 90 students have been recruited from four middle schools: Vivian Field, DeWitt Perry, Dan F. Long and Ted Polk. The ECHS has the capacity to grow a grade each year until it becomes a four-grade school with up to 400 students. The first class will graduate in 2010.

The ECHS is a part of the Texas High School Project, a $251 million public-private initiative that is committed to increasing graduation rates and college enrollment rates in Texas communities. THSP partners include the Texas Education Agency, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation, Wallace Foundation, educators and others. The governor of Texas strongly supports the program.

Through the THSP, the ECHS is designed to enable students to achieve two years of college credit at the same time they are earning a high school diploma and within four to five years of entering ninth grade. Additionally, this boosts graduation rates and increases the number of Texas high school students prepared for post secondary success.

Adriana Gomez, former Farmers Branch Elementary School principal, is the principal of the new ECHS. Mrs. Gomez joined C-FB ISD in 1985 as a teacher appraiser. In 1988, she became an elementary assistant principal, and in 1989 was named an elementary principal. For more information, please visit the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District's ECHS Web site. Honor Roll

Congratulations Arturo Gonzales, Erika Hinojosa and Donovan Sengphaathit for achieving the A Honor Roll for the semester. The first in their families to pursue a college degree, these students are making the grade at the Early College High School. The ECHS is a Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District school located on the Brookhaven College campus, designed to enable students to gain two years of college credit in addition to earning their high school diploma.
