The art department in the Brookhaven College School of the Arts is dedicated to providing the finest educational environment for art students seeking transfer to four-year institutions, preparing for graduate school, gaining additional professional training and continuing life-long learning.

With state-of-the-art classrooms, labs and a museum quality gallery, the Brookhaven College art department is a dynamic center for the study of art, providing outstanding foundation-level preparation in drawing, two- and three-dimensional design, art appreciation and art history. These beginning classes impart the skills and concepts necessary for advancement into sophomore-level courses in ceramics, computer graphics, drawing, figure studies, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, small metals, and watercolor.

Students can also earn college credit by taking intensive, special-focus art classes with prominent visiting artists during the Brookhaven College art department’s nationally recognized Summer Workshop Program. Students may choose to participate in foreign studies credit programs sponsored by the Dallas County Community College District. In addition to credit status, students can elect noncredit status and enroll concurrently in credit classes through Workforce and Continuing Education.

The art department has over 20 full-time and adjunct faculty members; all as dedicated to being practicing artists and scholars as they are to being challenging instructors. With local, national and international exhibitions to their credit, the faculty members are represented in major private, public and museum collections, and are frequent contributors as curators, jurors, lecturers and consultants to a broad art community.

Coordinated with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, the art department’s core curriculum transfers to all Texas four-year institutions. Many Brookhaven College School of the Arts art majors transfer, as well, to out-of-state institutions. Specialized articulation agreements facilitate seamless transfer to numerous regional and national institutions.
