Special skills are necessary for handling a busy and demanding medical office. Brookhaven College is the first in the Dallas County Community College District to add a program meant to prepare students for this career.

Medical Front Office Assistant Certificate

The Medical Office Management/Administration Program offers an updated Marketable Skills Achievement Award and a Level 1 Certificate. The program was designed to improve the proficiency of those working in a medical office or prepare those with strong office skills for the medical environment. The training can prepare medical front office staff to cross over into careers that include coding or billing specialist, medical assistant or office manager.

Medical Coder Certificate

Effective fall 2013, Brookhaven College will offer the Medical Coder Certificate program. This certificate provides training in medical terminology, coding, billing and insurance procedures. Entry-level employment opportunities that require a comprehensive knowledge of ICD and CPT codes are offered at medical offices, research facilities, health insurance companies, billing agencies and allied health facilities. The Medical Coder certificate provides an external learning experience and a foundation to prepare for the national examinations.

The Medical Coder Certificate can be completed in three semesters. Click here for more information.

NOTE: New students to the program must attend an information session.

Information sessions will provide opportunities for potential students to learn about the schedule, tuition and book costs, financial aid resources and potential career paths. Click here to view the session dates. For additional information, contact Sharon Burton at sBurton@dcccd.edu or Nehal Rangnekar at nRangnekar@dcccd.edu.
