While e-commerce may no longer hold the promise of “becoming a millionaire by age 30,” it is still one of the fastest growing fields in information technology. Should you bank your future on e-commerce? Here are some factors to consider:

The Internet is not going away. Name a company that doesn’t have a presence on the Web. Internet usage is not going down – it’s going up.Catalog | Courses | Calendars | A-Z Index |  At a minimum, businesses provide company information on the Internet, and most are expanding to provide services on the Web such as shopping, banking, education, training and investing.

Strong skill set development. When you complete the technical track of the AAS in electronic commerce, your resume will include the following skills:

Companies are seeking a combination of business and technical skills. Companies often complain of difficulty in finding technical people who understand business or business people who understand technology. With the AAS in electronic commerce, you’ll learn the fundamentals of both business and technology; then pick the area you want to specialize in. Either way, you’ll have a leg up on the competition.

Course credit transferable to University of Texas at Arlington. If you decide to go on to a four-year degree, DCCCD has an agreement with the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) that they will accept the courses in the electronic commerce AAS degree as transfer credits.

Online courses. Having trouble fitting in your education between work and family obligations? Many of our courses are available online (with more to come in the months ahead) so you can study when it’s convenient for you!

Two-year degree or several certificate options available. In addition to the two-year associate degree in electronic commerce, there are the Electronic Commerce Business Specialist Certificate, the Electronic Commerce Technology Specialist Certificate and the Web Developer Specialist Certificate available at Brookhaven College. You can choose the program that is right for you.
