Journalism professors

Dr. John Neal is the journalism program director at Brookhaven College and teaches mass communications, editing and layout and visual communications courses. He began teaching at Brookhaven in 1978 as its first journalism professor. Previously he was graphics coordinator at Richland College and worked in advertising.

His education includes:

• B.A. from the University of Houston
• M.A. from University of Texas, Austin
• M.S. from East Texas State University
• Ph.D. from University of North Texas

Larie Engles is the student publications manager and campus newspaper adviser for Brookhaven College. She teaches News Gathering I and II and Publications I, II, III and IV. Before teaching at Brookhaven, she spent her time in the advertising/public relations industry as a writer and business owner.

Her education includes:

• M.F.A. from Southern Methodist University
