Q: What is ESOL?
A: ESOL stands for English for Speakers of Other Languages. ESOL courses are designed to improve the English skills of individuals whose native language is not English.

Q: How many courses will I have to take?
A: There are eight formal levels to the full ESOL program. There are some beginning courses for those who need very basic skills and additional advanced programs for those who may be seeking job-specific skills.

Q: What if I have some English skills, but just need to improve my reading or writing?
A: The ESOL program offers a variety of courses for all skill levels. From courses for beginners to a stepped program for eight different skill levels, students can find a course to meet their individual needs. In addition, special topic courses focus on higher level instruction specific to the workplace.

Q: What is the tuition cost for each course?
A: The tuition for each course is $98. There may be additional costs for textbooks.

Q: Do I have to take a test?
A: No testing or documentation is needed. A placement test is highly recommended. For testing dates and hours, please contact the Multicultural Center at 972- 860-4192.

Q: Is there financial aid available?
A: ESOL courses qualify for the Texas Public Education Grants, TPEGs, for tuition only. Eligibility is based on financial needs and is determined by the Scholarships/Financial Aid Office after a review of the grant application. Processing your application will take approximately three weeks. The maximum award per semester is $500. For more information, contact the Scholarships/Financial Aid Office at 972- 860-4110.
