Brookhaven College offers teacher certification in the following subject areas:
Math, Science, History and Social Studies.
To become certified in these areas, applicants must submit official college transcripts indicating successful completion of a bachelors degree with at least 24 hours of course work related to the subject area they are interested in teaching; example: math candidates need 24 hours in math or related subjects. In addition transcripts must reflect a 2.5 GPA on the last 60 hours. No grade lower than a “C” will be accepted. (See chart below for specific requirements for each subject and grade level)
We want to help you meet your goal to become a teacher. Applicants who do not meet the minimum requirements may apply to the Teacher Intern Academy by successfully passing the “Challenge Test”, or opt to enroll in the Pre-Academy while working to meet the admissions and subject area requirements.

For individuals who do not meet minimum requirements, but do possess a bachelor's degree and appropriate teaching experience may apply to take the “Challenge Test” and prove subject area competence. This option is at the discretion of program staff and will be determined during the admissions process. No candidate will be considered “highly qualified” or eligible for a Probationary Certificate until the required TExES content area exam has been successfully completed.
