Q. What if I haven’t completed my degree?

Applicants who are currently completing degree requirements will not be admitted until degree is confirmed.

Q. What is your policy on degrees obtained outside the US ?

Applicants presenting a degree from a university outside the United States must submit their transcripts to an accredited evaluation service and admission to the program will be based on the results of the evaluation provided by the service. A list of accredited evaluators may be obtained from the program office.

Q. What is the deadline for applying?

Our application process is ongoing.  Once an application packet is received, the best and quickest route to certification is then determined by ACT staff.

Q. How are applications processed?

Applications are processed as they are received.  Early receipt of application will expedite entry into the program.  Please allow two weeks for processing of applications.

Q. How will I know the status of my application?

After evaluation of credentials, applicants will be notified by e-mail regarding any deficiencies.

Q.What happens after all credential requirements for the program are complete?

An interview will be scheduled upon evaluation and approval of application and credentials.

Q. When should I submit my application?

You should apply as soon as possible. Those accepted early have greater opportunity and selectivity in obtaining teaching positions. They have the opportunity to begin training early which will allow them to better integrate and apply the learning. Training is offered year-round so those accepted in the program can start classes at any time.

Q. How long does it take to process an application?

The process takes approximately six to eight weeks.

Q. Do I need to have a job before I am accepted into the program ?

No.

Q. When should I take the THEA or other acceptable assessment?

Applicants should take the Quick THEA immediately after deciding to apply for the ACT Program. Applications will not be considered for interview until the applicant has submitted passing scores.

Check with our testing office Web site for scheduled test dates – http://www.brookhavencollege.edu/studentsvcs/testingcenter/testcenter.htm. You may also check with local community colleges and universities for “Quick” THEA schedule. The test is given on a regular basis.

Q. Once I apply and meet basic eligibility requirements, am I enrolled in the Brookhaven College ACT program?

Submitting an application begins the process of possible admission to the Brookhaven College ACT Program. Once received, the applications are screened. Meeting eligibility requirements does not guarantee acceptance into the program. You may be scheduled for a formal interview with ACT personnel. Screening committees consider all available information to select those applicants most likely to succeed in this intensive accelerated teacher preparation program. This screening is completed on a pass/fail basis.

Q. If I do not have all the necessary coursework at this time, may I still submit an application and be considered for this program?

You may submit an application; however, you will not be eligible to participate as an Academy Intern until all entry requirements are satisfactorily completed and documentation is on file at Brookhaven College. You may enter the Pre-Academy which will enable you to take selected coursework while working to meet program requirements.
