Associate of Arts in Teaching
All seven DCCCD colleges offer the AAT degree. It is a program of study intended for students who wish to transfer to a four-year college or university and earn a bachelor's degree that leads to initial Texas teacher certification in three areas:
1) Elementary and middle school (including bilingual and ESL)
2) high school and all levels of arts and special education certification
3) specialized certification for those who plan to teach early childhood through Grade 4.

See our Web site at www.BrookhavenCollege.edu and click on "C" for Child Development for a link to the specific AAT and its course requirements and number of credit hours.

NOTE: Students in the Child Development Program at Brookhaven College are required to submit and pass a criminal background check.

Brookhaven College has joined in a partnership to offer a Head Start program on the campus. The state-of-the-art facilities are located in Building E on the college campus along with the Child Development Program offices and classrooms.

This facility offers a great opportunity for students to observe, work directly with children and conduct their practicum and internships.

Students who choose to observe in the center must obtain a TB skin test (free at the Health Center). In addition, students will be subject to a comprehensive criminal background check through Head Start. For appointments and arrangements call the Brookhaven College Head Start Center at 972-331-9565.
