Students who do not meet TASP requirements enroll in developmental classes to acquire those skills needed to pass their area of difficulty. The table to the right gives information about the TASP status of Brookhaven College developmental students enrolled during the Fall 1999 semester. Notice that students have the greatest difficulty passing Math, with 57% of the developmental students not meeting the Math TASP requirement. Developmental math was the top contributor to total Brookhaven College contact hours during the 1998-99 school year. In fact, over the last five years developmental math has had the greatest gain in contact hours of all Brookhaven College courses.

Success of Developmental StudentsThe chart to the left gives more information for developmental students who have taken TASP. Not all developmental students have TASP records, the reason why the number who passed/failed a TASP subject does not total 100%. The chart shows the success of the Fall 1999 developmental students in passing one or more of the TASP subject areas. Eventually those students who have not passed a portion of the TASP are re-tested.
