“Open Admissions” Opens Season for Theatre Brookhaven

Farmers Branch, Dallas, TX - With an emotionally charged production, Theatre Brookhaven will showcase Shirley Lauro’s “Open Admissions,” Oct. 16-26 at the Brookhaven College Performance Hall. An urban college professor and her brilliant yet illiterate black student face off in this piece, nominated for a Tony award and a New York Times pick for the “Ten Best Plays of the Year” list.

Intensely charged and confrontational, the play focuses on the disenchantment of the teacher, Ginny, and the struggle of Calvin, the student, as he tries to achieve an equal education in a system with too many racial double standards. The play is for mature audiences, containing some offensive language, violence and racial content.
The play is directed by Sherry Boyd, visiting scholar in the theatre department at Brookhaven College. Performances are Oct. 16-18 and 23-25 at 8 p.m. in the Performance Hall with matinee performances Oct. 19 and 26 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $6 for general admission, $4 for students and senior citizens. Call the Box Office at 972-860-4118 for more information or to reserve a ticket.
