Guitarists Play Tribute to Teacher

Farmers Branch, Dallas, TX - Three students of the classical guitar master, Andres Segovia, perform a tribute concert Friday, Nov. 7 at 8 p.m., at Brookhaven College. Robert Guthrie, Enric Madriguera and Christopher McGuire combine their talents in “A Segovia Tribute,” for the Guitar Dallas Series in the Ellison Miles Geotechnology Institute.

Guthrie heads the guitar program at Southern Methodist University. He has studied with such masters as Andres Segovia, Alirio Diaz, Jose Tomas and Jesus Silva. His concert appearances have taken him to every state in the U.S. and throughout Mexico, Italy, Spain and Venezuela.

Madriguera earned his doctorate in Humanities from UT Dallas, and currently teaches Guitar Ensemble and Humanities at Eastfield College. His albums include 1920-1941, Montoliu: Temas Hispanoamericanos, and Carnival Tropicana / Lure of the Tropics.

With an engaging performance style, McGuire has performed hundreds of acclaimed solo concerts in the United States, Mexico, Japan and Spain. He is the artistic director of the Fort Worth Classic Guitar Society. In addition to being an invited guest artist with orchestras and prestigious chamber ensembles, he also composes for his music group, D'Accord.

The Guitar Dallas concerts are presented by the Center For the Arts in partnership with the Fort Worth Classical Guitar Society.
