Fraud Conference Focuses on Seniors

Farmers Branch, Dallas, TX – A free conference and exhibition to educate the public, especially seniors, about the dangers of fraud is Feb. 20, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Brookhaven College main campus. The conference, designed to show how to combat scams and schemes aimed at stealing the public’s money, is presented by the college’s Senior Adult Education Program and coordinated by Seniors And Law Enforcement Together, the SALT Council.

Many exhibitors with educational materials and experts will be present to answer your questions.

The topics and guest speakers are:

  • Medicare and Power Wheelchair Fraud, presented by Carmen Narganes, health insurance specialist, Program Integrity Branch, Division of Medicare Financial Management of the Dallas Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services
  • Identity Theft, presented by Raul Gardun, public affairs specialist, with the Social Security Administration, Southwest Region
  • Living Trust Scams, presented by Janet Shafer Boyanton, from the Law Office of Janet Shafer Boyanton, P.C.
  • Specialized Crime, presented by Lee Duncan, who has 13 years experience in the Dallas County District Attorney's Office
  • General Crimes, presented by Lonny Herschel, Texas Ranger, with the Texas Department of Public Safety

The Fraud Conference is at Brookhaven College’s Building H, the Ellison Miles Geotechnology Institute. Brookhaven College is located at 3939 Valley View Lane, Farmers Branch, TX 75244-4997.
