|Sand, Surf, Science: Oceanography Field Study|
Farmers Branch, Dallas, TX – The best place to study oceanography is at the ocean, and a special oceanography field study course at Brookhaven College takes students to the source. The oceanography field study course takes the exploration of the ocean and its phenomenon on-the-road with a seven-day field trip to the Texas Gulf Coast. With on-campus classes and a field study tour, Introduction to Oceanography becomes a unique learning experience for those looking for some summer education, June 1-24.
Students will study beaches in Galveston and at North Padre Island, learn
about dredging on a boat tour of Port Aransas Harbor and get a behind-the-scenes
glimpse of Sea World with a special tour. Waves, tides, pollution
and water temperature are just some of the areas students will be able
to investigate hands-on during the Gulf Coast tour.
Taught by Durward Mommsen, former Navy oceanographer and Naval Academy instructor, the course is a full four-hour lab science course that meets for seven on-campus class sessions as well as the extended field study tour. The cost for the class is $750 plus standard tuition. A deposit of $375 is required, with the balance of the fee due by May 30. The cost includes transportation, lodging, meals and fees. For additional information on the course or to register, contact the Brookhaven College Science and Math Division at 972-860-4750.
