|Earn College Credit on Tour|
Farmers Branch, Dallas, TX – Take a tour of the great literary sites of Britain, from Wordsworth’s home to Canterbury Cathedral, as part of the literary tour of England offered through the International Study program at Brookhaven College. Students can immerse themselves in the literary culture of England and Wales as they tour “Literary Britain,” July 14-29, 2004.
Open to everyone either through credit or continuing education programs, “Literary Britain” is a guided tour through British literature. On this 13-day tour of English villages, cathedrals, theaters and other landmarks, students can earn up to six hours of college credit. The trip includes a stop in London for an evening of theatre, tours of Parliament, Westminster Abbey and the Globe Theater before a free day in the city. Stops in Liverpool include the “Beatles Tour” and a tour through Bristol includes Stonehenge, Avebury Circle and the ancient Roman baths in the city of Bath. The tour offers students an opportunity to see the land and landscape that shaped some of Great Britain’s most famous authors.
Lorene Strickland, English instructor and group leader, said the tour is usually evenly made up of college students seeking credit and those in the continuing education program who are interested in the experience and travel. Group discussions, an oral report and a final research paper are the major course components for this special class. Completion of the requirements for the English 2322 and 2323 courses is required to receive the six hours of college credit.
The cost of the tour includes airfare, two daily meals with the exclusion of free days, double occupancy accommodations, an English tour manager, transportation and all admission fees for approximately $3,300 per person. The cost also covers the theater tickets in Stratford and London. Class tuition is not included in the tour price. Participants will need to attend two seminars prior to departure for information about the travel arrangements and to receive an overview of the trip. For tour details, information and registration contact Ms. Lorene Strickland at 972-233-4621 or the Brookhaven College Communications Division at 972-860-4555.
