Guitar Dallas Presents Ricardo Cobo in Concert
Farmers Branch, Dallas, TX  • Columbian-born classical guitarist, Ricardo Cobo performs for Guitar Dallas and the Brookhaven College School of the Arts Nov. 12 at 8 p.m. in the Student Services Center, Building S. The Los Angeles Times called Cobo "a dynamic player who not only digs into passages of rhythmic verve and percussive ferocity but also plays close heed to the fine points of tonal color. He is a player who lays claim to the twin virtues of passion and clarity."
Cobo was the first Hispanic ever to win the highly coveted Guitar Foundation of America Solo Guitar Competition prize in 1987. Since that time, he has held positions as artist-in-residence at colleges and universities around the country. His touring schedule has taken him from New York's Carnegie Hall to auditoriums throughout the United States as well as locations in Spain, Venezuela, Japan and his native Columbia.
Cobo began guitar lessons at the age of 8, playing on a $20 souvenir guitar. Before turning 13, he was admitted to the Antonio María Valencia Conservatory. He studied at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, graduated from the North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem and later pursued postgraduate studies with Bruce Holzman at Florida State University. Cobo gave his professional debut with the Orquesta Filarmónica de Bogotá at age 17 on a nationwide telecast for an audience of more than 9 million people.
As an award-winning solo recording artist, Cobo's versatility can be heard on classical, children's, orchestral and crossover recordings with jazz musicians. His Guitar Lullaby CD, currently on its third printing, was awarded the American Library Association's highest recognition for children's music as well as a Parent's Choice Award.
Pricing for tickets is $24 for general admission, $15 for senior adults and $10 for students. Tickets are available at the Brookhaven College School of the Arts Box Office at 972-860-4118. BCSA Box Office hours are from 1 to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
