Communications Lecture Series Features Talented Teachers
FARMERS BRANCH/DALLAS • Tapping into its natural resources, the Brookhaven College Communications Division is offering a new lecture series. Ed Garcia, published poet and professor of English at Brookhaven College is the first speaker in the series discussing, “Why We Write” March 9 at 7:30 p.m. in Building B, Room B304.
Garcia will examine the reasons for writing, looking at the deep urges to communicate and share stories. Sharing stories that range from the well-known to the deeply personal, Garcia will offer perspectives on people writing in both ordinary and extraordinary circumstances.
With 30 years of experience teaching English at the Dallas County Community College District, including 15 years at Brookhaven College, Garcia also writes original verse. He has been published in the anthologies Texas Short Stories 2 and Texas in Poetry 2. He also contributes as a reviewer for the Dallas Morning News and other publications.
The lecture series will continue with Charles McAdams, professor of humanities at Brookhaven College, later this spring. The lecture series is free and open to the public.
