FARMERS BRANCH/DALLAS  •  Microsoft courses have been part of the curriculum in the Office Technology Department at Brookhaven College for several years, but the college has just become an official Microsoft Office Specialist, MOS, testing site for Microsoft Office 2003 software.

The Microsoft Office Specialist is the official Microsoft certification for Microsoft Office programs. It is the only globally recognized Microsoft certification designed to prove desktop computer skills and productivity in business programs. The exams evaluate how well the user comprehends, uses and is able to integrate Microsoft programs.

In addition to offering the certification exams, the Brookhaven College Office Technology Department offers the Software Application Specialist Certificate. This certificate prepares students to become proficient in Microsoft’s Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Publisher products. Students who are entering the program who may have passed specific MOS certification exams may be eligible to receive credit for equivalent office technology courses.

The exam costs $59 and includes two attempts within 30 days for students who do not pass the first test. Certification in Microsoft software programs can assist office personnel to advance in their careers and obtain better employment.

To schedule an appointment to take an exam or to learn more about the Software Application Specialist Certificate, call the Office Technology Department at 972-860-4174 or e-mail bhcOfficeTech@dcccd.edu.
