FARMERS BRANCH/DALLAS  •  For the second year in a row, the Brookhaven College Lady Bears volleyball team won the National Junior College Athletic Association, NJCAA, Division III national title. Brookhaven College defeated Ridgewater College, Minn., 30-25, 30-28, 28-30 and 30-25 in the championship match Nov. 12.

Jason Hopkins was named Coach of the Tournament for the second year. Melina Figueroa, returning outside hitter for the team, was named Tournament Most Valuable Player. Fellow team members Amber Hoffman, middle blocker, Natasha Nguyen, setter, and Courtney Gerrish, middle blocker, were selected for the All-Tournament Team by the NJCAA.

Nguyen and Figueroa are both graduates of Poteet High School in Mesquite and Gerrish is a graduate of Azle High School. Traveling to nationals for the first time are Hoffman, a graduate of Clifton High School in Clifton; Ashton Lovejoy, a graduate of Flower Mound High School; Lindsay Roberts and Sydni Vaught, graduates of Castleberry High School in Fort Worth; and Brianca Jones, a graduate of Rowlett High School.
