DALLAS • Beginning this fall, Brookhaven College will offer an associate degree focusing on Mexican-American Studies. An increasing interest in the history and culture of Mexico led to the college adding a course “Mexico: A Cultural Perspective” a few years ago. The addition of the field of study degree will allow those who want to learn more about the historical, social, religious, artistic and linguistic traditions of Mexico an even greater opportunity.
The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board recently approved the addition of this field of study degree program for the Dallas County Community College District. The degree program adds introductory courses in Mexican-American art, literature, politics and history as well as two Spanish for native speakers courses.
There are several universities around the country that offer bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in Mexican-American studies. Additional information about the degree program is available online at www.BrookhavenCollege.edu, in the course catalog.
