Representatives from Bridgestone/Firestone presented Dr. Sharon L. Blackman with another donation on August 1st. For years, the company has donated funds to the Automotive Technology Division at Brookhaven College in support of the partnership between the college and the company to offer students company-sponsored training. Don Jones and David McNabb, automotive professors, attended the meeting with representatives from BFS Retail and Commercial Operations, the parent company of Bridgestone, Firestone and Mastercare Service Centers . Through their South Central Zone, BFS supports more than a dozen training programs. The company has consistently recognized Brookhaven College for the Business Studies Division’s and automotive technology program’s dedication to this partnership.

Adrien Cuellar-McGuire, Charles McAdams, Edleeca Thompson and Ricky Reeves have been selected to give a presentation at the national conference in San Antonio for the Community College Humanities Association in October. Janice Franklin from Mountain View College also will take part in the presentation. The group is presenting a panel discussion on Rio Grande - Red, Creativity Between Two Rivers.” It explores examples of how various cultures between the two rivers, that define the southern and northern borders of Texas, have shaped the arts from past to present, and includes visual and musical pieces following life in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries in the Lone Star State.

Dr. Gustavo Tolosa, adjunct professor in continuing education, will be a guest pianist, performing the Beethoven Triple Concerto, on September 22nd with the Abilene Philharmonic Orchestra at the Abilene Civic Center .
