For Release through Dec. 1
DALLAS – The community is invited to two free concerts featuring the jazz talents of Brookhaven College. The Vocal Jazz Ensemble will perform a special concert at the Lakewood Theatre on Dec. 3. The Jazz Combo and Lab Band come together for a performance on Dec. 1 in the Performance Hall at Brookhaven College.
Formed in 1989, the award-winning Vocal Jazz Ensemble consists of music majors and minors performing a variety of jazz classics and vocal jazz styles. The group has toured England, Ireland, Mexico, Dominican Republic and Texas, and has performed in Nashville, Atlanta, Seattle, and Chicago. Six of the group’s members have been named outstanding soloists at the Addison Texas Jazz Festival. This group is under the direction of Elaine Gardner-Morales and features professional jazz pianist Jerry Samuels.
The Brookhaven College Lab Band/Jazz Band is a 17-20 piece band of trumpets, trombones, saxophones and a full rhythm section. The group performs various musical jazz styles in the big band setting. The Jazz Combo explores beginning jazz literature for the same instrumentation. Several performances are scheduled each semester and presented at Brookhaven College and in surrounding communities.
