For Release Through July 6
DALLAS –This year’s summer musical from Theatre Brookhaven goes the full distance for humor with “The Full Monty.” From June 26-July 6, this adaptation of the 1997 hit movie tells the story of six fellows who decide to change their fortunes after losing their jobs by putting on a ‘regular-Joe’ strip show for one night only.
The musical version of the story includes a clever, tuneful score from David Yazbek. Terrence McNally adapted the screenplay for the stage and moved the story from Sheffield, England, to Buffalo, New York. A group of unemployed steelworkers are looking for quick cash and settle on the idea of a striptease after seeing how excited their wives get at a Chippendale-style review. The men each have to face their fears and gain self-confidence and self-respect as they get ready to face the audience.
The play is to be considered rated R due to language and partial nudity. Directed by Michael A. Robinson, shows are June 26-28 and July 3 and 5 at 8 p.m., and June 29 and July 5 and 6 at 2:30 p.m. in the School of the Arts Performance Hall in Building C. General admission is $15; student and senior adults are $10. Tickets are available at the School of the Arts Box Office at 972-860-4118. Box Office hours are Monday through Thursday from 1 to 5 p.m. and Friday from 1 to 3 p.m.
