The award-winning Brookhaven College Lab Band performed a free summer concert on August 6th. Students and community members gathered in the International Courtyard to listen to these big band sounds. Keith Umbach directs the Lab Band and, which has performed at jazz festivals in Corpus Christi, Texas, and the Annual North Texas Jazz Festival in Addison, Texas. The Lab Band is a 17-20 piece band, performing a variety of jazz styles and composed of students and community members.
The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission sent formal notification to Brookhaven College to approve the extension of the college’s nursing program to Mountain View College. The commission voted at its meeting on July 9-10 to extend the accreditation of the associate degree nursing program to include the additional location. Juanita Zapata Flint, executive dean of the health and human services division, received the letter confirming the accreditation on August 4th.
Two memorial exhibitions at the galleries of the Brookhaven College School of the Arts opened August 4th to celebrate the lives and work of art alumni. A reception for both exhibitions is August 14th from 6-8:00 p.m., and the shows are open until August 27th. Charlotte Dubin: Character and Legacy is in the Forum Gallery with works by the late Charlotte Dubin, Louise Rosenfield, Robin Dubin, Suri Poulos, Mitch Dubin, Kim Cheslka, Rhys Dubin, Rianna Puolos, Hinda Dubin, Nina Elman and Bill Binder. The Studio Gallery exhibits works by Eva Booth, David Brown, Jackie Lowen and additional works by Charlotte Dubin in Ars Longa. Both shows feature works that are part of the college’s permanent art collection, and others are on loan from faculty members.
