Brookhaven College has pledged to join the fight against HIV and AIDS as an HIV testing site on the 2010 Hip Hop for HIV tour.
Free testing will take place June 3 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Health Center, located in the Student Services Center, Room S072.
Through Hip Hop for HIV, students and the public can get tested, and receive free tickets to an exclusive concert, presented by KBFB 97.9 The Beat. The June 20 musical event will feature major hip-hop artists Omarion, Marques Houston, Roscoe Dash and Dorrough from 3-7 p.m. at The Palladium Ballroom, 1135 S. Lamar in Dallas.
Hip Hop for HIV encourages the Dallas community to get tested at any of the event’s 16 testing sites and to know their HIV status. All who get tested receive one free ticket to the concert.
According to the Texas Department of State Health Services, in the third quarter of 2008 alone, Dallas reported 402 new HIV cases and 366 new AIDS cases. More than 16 million people have died of AIDS globally, and more than 16,000 people become infected each day.
