Release Date Sept. 1
Students in the Automotive Technology Department at Brookhaven College are benefitting from a recent donation from Grainger, Inc. Bruce Alexander, branch manager for Grainger, Inc. in Farmers Branch, presented the check $10,000 to the college.
A total of $20,000 has been donated to the Dallas County Community College Foundation; $10,000 will fund 20 scholarships for the automotive students and the other will find the North Texas Tech Prep Consortium, an educational concept, which prepares students for emerging, technologically advanced careers. Students in classes in the automotive labs were able to gather for the brief presentation ceremony.
“We understand that one of the best ways to invest in the community is to contribute to the education of our workforce,” said Alexander. “We are proud to partner with the Dallas County Community College District to support and encourage the next generation of skilled-trades leaders.”
The funds will go to provide scholarships to students who are in any of the three automotive programs at Brookhaven College. Grainger is primarily an industrial supply company, and a key focus of the company’s philanthropic efforts has been supporting technical education.
“As a community college, one of our primary roles is to offer career technical education and skills training to prepare our students for high-tech professions,” said Marilyn K. Lynch, associate vice president for career and program resources. “We are so pleased that Grainger has chosen Brookhaven College for this donation and our students as the beneficiaries of these scholarships, and look forward to new opportunities for the future.”
