Release Date May 24

Student Success - The Brookhaven College Bears Baseball team is heading to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) World Series Tournament with high hopes.  The team recently won its first Metro Athletic Conference, followed by the District Championship.  And for the first time, the NJCAA polls have the Bears ranked as one of the top five teams in Division III.  On May 23rd, Brookhaven College employees and students came together to wish Coach Brandon Rains and all the team members a fond farewell with a hot dog lunch.

Institutional Effectiveness - It is graduation time and Brookhaven College students and their families celebrated commencement on May 16th.  Hundreds of family members and friends cheered the graduates as each crossed the stage to receive their degree or certificate.  More than 720 students were eligible to participate in the ceremony this year.  In his welcome to the students, Brookhaven College President Dr. Thom Chesney asked each graduate to use the pen and note card they had been provided to send a small message of thanks to a professor or staff member who had made a difference or supported them through their time at the college.  The cards were collected, sorted and distributed.

Employee Success - Randy Lorber, former baseball player and student turned assistant coach at Brookhaven College, has moved on to join The Woodlands Christian Academy Strykers team (The Woodlands, TX) as assistant coach.  Lorber was an outstanding player at Brookhaven College, earning a scholarship to The University of Texas at Dallas where he completed his bachelor’s and master’s degrees.  As assistant coach at Brookhaven College, he has served as recruiting coordinator and hitting coach and has coordinated the team’s strength and conditioning program.
