Brookhaven College offers students an exciting opportunity to spend 11 colorful days becoming steeped in the literary culture of England. Experience firsthand the influence of the landscapes, villages, theatres and cathedrals on British writers.
Open to everyone either through credit or continuing education programs, “Literary Britain” is a guided tour through British literature. Explore English villages, theaters, castles, cathedrals, museums and landmarks. The trip includes stops in London, Strathmore, Bristol and the Lake District where students can visit the homes of celebrated writers such as Shakespeare, the Brontës, Wordsworth and Virginia Woolf. Students can earn up to six hours of college credit.
Lorene Strickland, English instructor and group leader, said the tour is usually evenly made up of college students seeking credit and those in the continuing education program who are interested in the experience and travel.
Group discussions, an oral report and a final research paper are the major course components for this special class. Lorene has led this tour 13 times during her career with the college and looks forward to leading one final tour and ending the program on a luckier number.
