Employee of the Month

November, 2008 - Chaz Hafey, lab coordinator in the Astronomy/Physics Lab

Chaz Hafey

Congratulations to Chaz Hafey, lab coordinator in the Astronomy/Physics Lab.

Chaz Hafey’s lab students got an unexpected break from their studies Nov. 24 when their teacher was honored as the November Employee of the Month.

As lab coordinator in the Astronomy/Physics Lab, Chaz conducts indoor labs, runs tutorial and open lab hours for students, assists adjunct faculty and conducts stargazing sessions for students. Chaz has been instrumental in organizing CSI Brookhaven, which has been an outreach experience for the Early College High School students. He also has directed the Asteroid Search Project for our students in partnership with Hardin-Simmons University and NASA. Through this project Chaz and two of our students have identified a number of asteroids for which they have been given credit.

“Chaz is an extremely cheerful, helpful and friendly person, and he continually goes the extra mile - not just with a smile but also a pun which is lots of fun!” said his nomination. “He is known to stay late and miss a meal if someone asks for his help.”
