POSSIBLE SUCCESS DIRECTIONS - MEMO

Attached you will find a list of possible Success Directions for Brookhaven College. They have grown out of the process that began at the September all-college meeting and continued with workgroup meetings and student and adjunct instructor input. We have tried to come up with statements about what Brookhaven will do in the next few years which reflect all the suggestions we received. This list consists of 24 possible Success Directions which will be the subject of discussion over the next month. In the first week of December, all full-time employees–staff, administration, and faculty–will vote on the statements and select the smaller group of Success Directions which will be Brookhaven’s collective statement about the directions we will take to help students and employees be more successful.

In order to make the general statements more understandable, we have categorized them and included an example of the kind of initiative that would fall within the umbrella of each Success Direction. We might have picked many, many other examples. The point is not to focus on the sample initiatives but to use them to help us have a clear idea of what the Success Direction means.

The discussion phase of this process will have a number of prongs. We will have an opportunity to talk to each other and argue for or against particular Success Directions at the all-college meeting on Friday, November 15. Members of the Success College Team will also come at your invitation to work group meetings to discuss the list with you and to answer any questions. Finally, you will have an opportunity for discussion at PSSA and Faculty Association meetings in November.

This process has already generated many good ideas and suggestions. What we do in the next 6 weeks will have a lasting impact on the directions Brookhaven takes and on the success of our students. We invite everyone to participate and help the college make the best possible decisions.
