Chapter: COLLEGE OPERATIONS
Subject: Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure

In December 1991, Federal regulations were passed which addressed the issue of blood borne and bodily fluid incidents. The specific law is referenced by OSHA Part 1910.1030, Title 19 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR).

Brookhaven College is charged with providing compliance with all aspects of this act and particularly where incidents involving blood and other body fluids are present at the scene of an incident. In order to comply effectively with these provisions and for the protection of all parties involved, Brookhaven College has developed and enacted an Exposure Plan.

This plan includes procedures for first responders, service providers, and clean-up personnel to minimize exposure to blood borne pathogens from the incident site to final disposal.

Persons responsible for compliance with these provisions are assigned by the President. The responsible parties are as follows:

1.      College Nurse;

2.      Director of Police;

3.      Director of Facilities Services.

Copies of the Exposure Plan are available for review in the following locations:

1.      College Health Center;

2.      Department of Police.

The College Nurse has an assigned vendor to dispose of any blood borne pathogens in accordance with the Texas Department of Health Regulations.A
