Subject: Field Trips

Brookhaven College encourages the use of field trips, where appropriate, as an adjunct to classroom instruction. All field trips must comply with procedures found in the Business Procedures Manual. The following procedures for a field trip are required for the safety and security of the students, faculty and college.   Field Trips

1. A Student Travel Advance and Approval Request (STAAR, form #0223) must be completed for each field trip and submitted to the division dean at least fifteen (15) workdays prior to the field trip, for approval. (The division dean may specify additional conditions for approval of the field trip.)
2. A Field Trip Participation Consent (form #0771) must be completed and signed by each student. All field trips, per class, per semester, may be listed on one form. This form must be kept on file in the division office for two years. After two years, the forms are boxed and sent to Forms Management at the District Service Center and another three years' retention.
3. The required field trip forms and detailed procedures are available in the division offices. Blank forms are ordered from Forms Management at the District Service Center. (STAAR #0223; Field Trip Participation #0771.)
4. Only full-time faculty may be approved for overnight field trips.
